Three of the Philippines' amateur boxers went separate directions today at the 2007 AIBA world championships in Chicago. My personal bet Violito Payla lost his bout against 2007 Athens co-Olympian Rau' shee Warren. The decision was a score of 25-11 in favor of the American boxer Warren. He can now sit back, relax and just wait for August 2008 when the Olympics competition lick-off. On the other hand, Payla would need to compete on another Olympic qualifying tournament that should be held sometime in March of 2008.

On another bout featuring another Filipino boxer, Harry Tanamor won through decision against Dostiev Sherali of Tajikistan. On the third bout involving another Filipino amateur boxer, Genebert Basadre also lost against Javakhyan Hracik of Armenia. It's was a lopsided victory for Hracik scoring 17-6 against Basadre.

Sometimes, I can't really tell if the Filipino boxers met some tough competition up there or just ill-prepared to keep up with higher level of competition. There should be something better done to training better prepared boxers from the Philippines. After all, the country has some of the best professional boxing champions! If Filipinos can make it on a professional level of boxing, I don't see any reason why they can make it better on an amateur level.
