Mary Antoinette Rivero - 2nd Filipino Olympic Qualifier

Joining the first 2008 Olympic qualifier Tshomlee Go for the Philippines is Mary Antoinette Rivero who defeated her opponent Soheila Sayahi of Iran in their below 67 kg. category semifinals match. Mary Rivero will make a second consecutive trip to the Olympics by formally placing third in this relatively easier Taekwondo Olympics qualification event. In the rest of the events, the other taekwondo jins who made it to the Olympic taekwondo competition in Beijing next year are: Vietnam’s Ha Giang Hoang ranked first, while Thailand’s Mae-Num Chirdkiatisak, Iran’s Sara Khosh Jamal Fekry, Kazakshtan’s Nurkina Liya, Iran’s Behzad Khodadad K, Vietnam's Nguyen Van Hung, Afghanistan’s Rohullah Nikpai and Thailand’s Dech Sutthikunkarn. The 2 other Filipino taekwondo athletes from the Philippines, Kirstie Elaine Alora and Alex Briones, have yet to conclude their stints in this tournament.

A total of 24 taekwondo athletes will get their 2008 Olympics tickets here in this Taekwondo qualification event in Ho Chi Minh City. Placing within the top three of any weight class will serve as the official entry to next year's Olympics. This event will conclude today with the finals being held later this morning in Vietnam.
