Lori Chalupny kicked in one of the fastest goals in history to power the American women's soccer team to a win that bumped them up to the quarterfinals. It was the second fastest all-time in the FIFA world cup history. This win also cemented their place at the top of their compeition grouping 3 points clear of the second placer the North Korean women's soccer team. The rain probably had a big impact on the game as a whole even as the Nigerian women found a bright spark nearly in the middle of the game but still wasn't able to score a single goal.
The U.S. Soccer Team will now face England's soccer team scheduled 3 days from now. It is a knock-out match for the right to move on to the next round of competition. Nigeria in the meantime will be going home as they have been eliminated from the tournament.
