Tickets to the Olympics are hard to come by as they are being distributed through lottery in Mainland China, where the local Chinese themselves only have a 1 in 7 chances to get tickets. There were already 2 phases of Tickets selling. The first one was back in April 30, 2007 and the most recent was in June 30, 2007. Local Beijing residents accounted for the majority of ticket buyers back in April. Almost a quarter of tickets available for purchase were sold by April 2007. By now, all of the tickets for the Opening Ceremony were sold already. And it wasn't as easy to come by when they were available too. There was only 1 out of 21 chances to get tickets. For the closing ceremonies, there's only 1 out of 7. People from other countries also showed great interest with over 720,000 requests for an astounding 5.18 million tickets. No news on how many were granted tickets as it looks like local Chinese buyers were given priority. Beijing residents comprised 46% of ticket applications while people from Guangdong province, Shanghai, Hebei province, Jiangsu province, and Zhejiang province also showed great interest. The Most popular events showing great ticket demand were obviously the Opening ceremony & the Sports events that the Chinese are expected to do well: basketball, diving, table tennis, football, and gymnastics. There are probably good chances of getting tickets in sports were the Chinese have low participation.
