Two different routes were taken my my 2 favorite boxing teams at the 2007 AIBA World Championship in Chicago at the opening day. U.S. light welterweight Javier Molina and Bantamweight Gary Russell Jr. scored easy wins against Jamaica's Rikardo Smith and Slovakia's Rudolf Dydi respectively. They just made their first step in qualifying for the 2008 Beijing Olympics boxing competition.

For the Filipino boxers on the other hand, it was a forgettable first round as Joan Tipon was outclassed by Thailand's Worapoj Petchkoom of Thailand, 5-13 in the Bantamweight division. The same drubbing happened to Filipino Welterweight Delfin Bohoust to Mai Maititusunquiong of China, 15-37.
