Today October 2, 2009 the Olympic selection committee has chosen the city of Rio De Janeiro in Brazil South America to be the official host of the 2016 Summer Olympics games.
First to be eliminated from contention was Chicago by getting the least amount of votes cast in the first round of voting. Second to be written off the running to be 2016 Olympic host was Tokyo in Japan by getting the least amount of votes in the second round of voting.
The last round of voting was between Madrid and Rio De Janeiro. The Olympics Selection committee selects Rio De Janeiro as the next destination for the Olympic Summer games in the year 2016. Source
