2006 Olympics Singer Pavarotti Dies at 71

Probably the most recognizable Tenor of the modern times & 2006 Winter Olympics Singer Luciano Pavarotti dies at the age of 71 after losing a year-long battle with pancreatic cancer. He never came back after being released from the hospital august 25. He has been suffering with chronic fever for a few months before passing away. His claim to fame is his most recognizable Tenor voice which he used to amaze audience all over the world. The also teamed-up with 2 other great tenors: Placido Domingo and Jose Carreras. He holds the current world records for most number of classical albums sold.

Other interesting facts about Mr. Luciano Pavarotti are:

1. Pavarotti developed a close friendship with Princess Diana after he joined her campaign against landmines. He declined an invitation to perform at her funeral, saying he could not sing well with "grief in his throat".

2. In 1998 Pavarotti became on of only 15 artists to receive the Grammy Legend Award since it began in 1990. His most recent release was the pop-flavoured Ti Adoro, in 2003.

3. He is known as "The King Of Cancellations" for missing out several concerts in the U.S.

Pavarotti Supports Beijing's Bidding for Olympics - Back in 2001, Opera superstar Luciano Pavarotti said at a press conference Monday in Hong Kong that he firmly supports Beijing's bidding for the 2008 Olympic Games.If I could vote, I will certainly vote Beijing for the right place for the Olympic Games," said Pavarotti, who arrived in Hong Kong Monday afternoon for a concert after an 11-year absence.
